Capturing the Wildlife, Landscapes, and Quiet Places of New Zealand
Originally from Oregon, USA, my wife Judi and I have called the Darfield area of Canterbury home for more than 42 years.
Photography may well be in my DNA. My grandfather, R. E. Lawrence, was an award-winning photographer, and I have been fascinated by the craft since my youth. I became a keen birder at an early age and took up photography in the 1970s. Birding first taught me to observe; photography gave me a way to share those observations with others.
Travels throughout South Asia, North and South America, Australia, and the Pacific, for both work and leisure, have provided many memorable photographic opportunities. I am a committed Nikon enthusiast and currently use a Nikon D850 DSLR, although my iPhone has also proven to be a remarkably capable photographic tool.
New Zealand's wildlife and landscapes remain among my favourite subjects. More recent projects include black-and-white studies of rural buildings and exploring the fascinating world of macro photography, particularly insects and fungi.
Thank you for visiting my website. It is a pleasure to share some of the sights, experiences, and moments reflected in these images. While my primary photographic interests are represented in the gallery collections, one of the great joys of living in New Zealand is the continual discovery of new and unexpected subjects to photograph.
